Santoin - Toothpaste

Santoin - Toothpaste is indicated for daily oral hygiene and is especially beneficial for people with a greater tendency for the formation of tartar, bleeding gums and frequent infections.

Santoin is produced based on the Macleya Cordata Chinese herb containing alkaloids sanguinarine and chelerythrine in combination with Allantoin.
Santoin helps reduce the risk of periodontitis and significantly reduces the problem in acute cases already.

The Macleaya Cordata herb is used in China and Japan in traditional medicine for treating skin fungal disease, disinfecting skin wounds and infections in the oral cavity.
The major components of the extract is a mixture of alkaloids sanguinarine and chelerythrine. Both active compounds were tested pharmacologically and have anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties which limit the formation of plaque, help to reduce bleeding, gingivitis and neutralize the sulfur compounds, which are often the cause of bad breath.

Both alkaloids have favorable effects in preventing inflammatory diseases of the gums. The activity against microbial pathogens of these natural substances are comparable to the synthetic antiseptics used in dentifrices.

Another substance in the preparation is Allantoin which accelerates the healing of inflammations.

The toothpaste also contains fluoride and a number of complementary and aromatic components for optimal cleaning effect, and long lasting and fresh feeling in the mouth.

What is Gingivitis?
Gingivitis is the initial phase of Periodontal disease, which is an inflammation and infection that causes changes in the tissues that support the teeth, such as the gums, ligaments and alveolar bone - the bone tissue that surrounds the roots of the teeth.

Gingivitis is sometimes the result of the effects of long-term build up of plaque.
Gingivitis is usually caused by deficient or misguided hygiene. Plaque is a sticky substance made of bacteria, mucus and food waste, which develops the exposed portion of teeth. It is also a major cause of tooth decay.
If plaque is not removed, it turns into a hard deposit called tartar that becomes adhered to the tooth. Bacteria and toxins produced by plaque and tartar irritate the gums and leaves them swollen and tender.

What is Periodontitis?
Periodontal disease or Periodontitis (formerly called Pyorrhea) is an infectious, contagious disease, and whose evolution untreated can lead to tooth loss.

It is characterized by progressive loss of tooth support. It can affect all age groups, although it is more prevalent in adults from 40 years. In children and young people is much more aggressive.
Periodontitis is one of the major causes of loosening of the teeth on adults and is the primarly in older people.

Most cases of Periodontitis are the consequence of prolonged accumulation of plaque and tartar between the teeth and gums, thus favoring the formation of deep cavities between the tooth root and the underlying bone. These cavities accumulate plaque in oxygen free environment which stimulates the growth of bacteria. If the process continues, the jaw adjacent to the cavity will ultimately be destroyed until the tooth falls.

Periodontitis can trigger destructive surges of activity lasting months, followed by periods in which the disease apparently did not cause greater damage.

Many diseases may predispose to collapse the Periodontitis, including Diabetes Mellitus, Down's Syndrome, Crohn's disease, a White Blood Cell Deficiency and AIDS.
The Periodontitis progresses faster in affected by HIV.
