Melatonin: Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is synthesized in the pineal gland, and its production is suppressed by light. Melatonin plays a key role in regulating circadian rhythm, most importantly through its influence on the sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin action has led to the use of melatonin in a wide range of sleep disorders, including jet lag, shift work, primary insomnia, wake-sleep cycle disturbance, and sleep problems in aging or in children with neurodevelopmental abnormalities .
Valerian: Sesquiterpene compounds have a recognized sedative action. Used as a soothing and tranquilizer, effective against anxiety. Useful in imbalances of the nervous system. Promotes restful sleep and reduces the sensation of pain.
Tryptophan: Tryptophan is the neutral amino acid precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin synthesis. Variations in serum tryptophan levels may alter the concentration of serotonin in the brain. Thus, its use has been studied in situations of depression, as well as in the decrease of sleep latency.
